"Everything changes.  There's no escaping that.  But out here...this is the most similar to how it was then.  There are differences, of course, but far less so than nearly all else.  Sometimes you can find spaces out here that are almost unchanged.  I like to sit here, in these places, and be washed away by nostalgia."

Carnelian is remarkable at adapting, but sometimes he does get wistful and nostalgic over one thing or another.  Anything from old lovers he's had to old buildings he used to enjoy spending time in.  And he finds that he remembers them best in places least changed by time.
